Environment Working Group

Having proposed the declaration of a climate emergency, the Liberal Democrats are setting up a local Environment Working Group to progress our thinking and actions on a wide range of environmental issues, not just climate change, and we are looking for members to join the group and help us. Meanwhile, the Council will be developing its Climate Change Emergency action plan proposals.

It is early days and lots to do, but there are other organisations and individuals locally who want to fight climate change and act on other environmental issues, so we won't be alone in rising to the challenges ahead. We want to join up with these other groups, sharing knowledge, views and ideas, as we develop local plans and priorities. Working with the Council, but also holding it to account.

Climate Change Emergency - Knowledge is Power

Steve Taylor

We are holding an event for all Lib Dem members "Climate Change Emergency - Knowledge is Power" on 12 September at 19:30 (Venue TBC) This introductory session, which will be run by Steve Taylor, will look at the causes of climate change, why we need to take immediate action, and what we should be doing nationally and individually now. We will look at current Lib Dem policies; and how we can develop and practically use them to fashion and support the Council's action plan for the Climate Change Emergency.

It will also be an opportunity for the newly formed Environment Working Group to share with the membership its thinking about likely aims, objectives and targets, its proposed relationship and engagement with other local environmental groups and the interface with Chiltern DC . We do hope you can come, and we would particularly welcome anyone interested in joining the Environmental Working Group. RSVP by 2 September: environment@chilternlibdems.org.uk
