Government must suspend HS2 - Peter Jones

Above: Peter Jones has been a consistent opponent of HS2. Here he is speaking at the Liberal Democrat conference in Brighton a few years ago.

On 17 April the Liberal Democrat councillors on Chiltern District Council supported a motion calling for the government to suspend all HS2 works pending a review of the business case and significant improvements in HS2's woeful standards of community engagement.

Liberal Democrat councillor Peter Jones supported the motion. He pointed out that HS2 had said they would bury the electricity cables at South Heath, but what residents are getting is actually even higher pylons. Following a suggestion that Tory wannabe-leader Liz Truss should be sent a copy of the Council's letter, Peter said to the Conservative councillors 'I won't get a vote in your leadership election, but you will. Send the letter to Mr Raab and Mr Hunt and all the rest of them!"
