Chesham: Praise for Liberal Democrat Environmental Initiative

March 10, 2019 7:42 AM

Chesham Town Council's Environmental Policy has received praise from the National Association of Local Councils in its annual publication Points of Light. The policy was drafted and adopted by Chesham's Liberal Democrat Council in 2006. It aims to minimise waste and pollution and encourage environmentally-friendly practices to promote biodiversity.

Particular achievements mentioned by the National Association include:

  • The wild flower project in Berkhampstead Field near Vale Road. The Council now lets the grass grow through the summer and cuts it in the autumn to give wild flowers a chance to flourish.
  • The monthly local produce market in Market Square.
  • Low-energy lighting in Council premises.

There have also been initiatives like the solar panels at the Moor Gym and Swim.
