News (mostly) from the local Liberal Democrats

  • Euro launch
    Article: Apr 27, 2019

The Liberal Democrats have today announced their list of MEP candidates in the South East constituency for the European elections on 23 May.

The diverse list of candidates includes a current MEP, Councillors and other hard working community activists.

The Liberal Democrats will fight the elections as an unapologetically pro-European Party campaigning hard to stop Brexit and restore Britain's tarnished reputation in Europe.

  • Conference Extra
    Article: Apr 27, 2019
    By Rachel Dineley

The Liberal Democrats' Spring Conference in York, in March this year, provided a very welcome opportunity for members to consider key issues of concern to us all, other than Brexit. Nowhere is perfect, but on the whole, I think Chesham people are remarkably tolerant of difference, whether it's of race, religion, culture or whatever. What's more, people are actively interested in finding out about the different cultures which exist among us.

Lib Dem councillors are trying to get roadside trees replaced after they were felled in a number of Chesham roads. But Tory councillors on the Town Council and County Council are more interested in fighting each other about who knew the trees were going to be felled and which council will pay for replacements.

  • Peter Jones at Liberal Democrat conference 2016
    Article: Apr 20, 2019

Above: Peter Jones has been a consistent opponent of HS2. Here he is speaking at the Liberal Democrat conference in Brighton a few years ago.

On 17 April the Liberal Democrat councillors on Chiltern District Council supported a motion calling for the government to suspend all HS2 works pending a review of the business case and significant improvements in HS2's woeful standards of community engagement.
