South Central Region in conjunction with Winchester Lib Dems are organising a Day of Anti-Brexit Action on Saturday 9 February in the form of a morning training followed by a rally and a march in Winchester. The exact political focus of this march will depend on where we are on the political agenda at that point - ask Theresa May! We might be demanding a People's Vote, campaigning for one, opposing a No Deal or any other option that might arise.

The speakers are now confirmed and they are: Vince Cable, Andrew Adonis, Jason Hunter and Susan Kramer.

The day will begin with registration at 9:30 at The United Church, Jewry St, Winchester SO23 8RZ followed by:

At the Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton last month the party's highest honour for long and distinguished service, the President's Award, was presented to well-known local activist and former councillor Martin Kyrle.

Martin read history at Southampton University, and joined the Liberal Party sixty years ago soon after graduating. He began his political career as local election agent in Southampton, and in Portswood ward in the council elections in 1961 secured the party's first second place since the War. Moving to Chandler's Ford, he succeeded in getting his late wife, Margaret, elected as the first-ever Liberal member of Eastleigh Borough Council in 1972.

The Liberal Democrats in Bucks, Berks, Hants, Oxon and the Isle of Wight make up the South Central Region.

The Region gives us a structure for counties to join together where it is helpful to do so and be more effective in our campaigning. It also gives up a stronger voice when making representations to the party nationally about policy or the party's overall strategy.

Ever feel like you never get to see other Lib Dems from the region? Do you sometimes think "I wish I could have a chat with Jane and Bill from that other local party over a nice pint"? Well now's your chance!

For those of you who are coming to Federal Conference, we are having our annual South Central Regional get together on Sunday 16th September from 18-19:30.

It will be in The Hop Poles pub, 13 Middle Street, Brighton, BN1 1AL which is where we had it two years ago.

Regional Policy Committee would love to hear from members with policy or debate ideas for Autumn Regional Conference. We can help research and draft your ideas into a motion and push it further in the Party. Motions passed at the regional level help influence federal policy, both on their own, and as a step towards a successful motion at Federal Conference.

If you are new to the party and want to know how you can influence party policy, unsure of what 'policy' is, or have an idea you want us to develop regionally or nationally, please email Mohsin Khan, chair of the Policy Committee, at mohsin.khan@wadh.oxon.org and we'll help you.

We are also looking for people who can speak or advise on topics at future events to get in touch. If you have any expertise in particular field (for example: education, police, health, defense, engineering, etc.) and would like to contribute to regional or federal policy in any way, please email Mohsin at the email address above.
