12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 11th Sep 2008

LIBERAL Democrats in Chiltern are attending the party's conference in Bournemouth this week.

Six members from Chiltern will attend the conference which finishes Wednesday 17th September.

Debates taking place include pensions, crime, eco-towns, the housing and mortgage crisis, transport and health.

"We are expecting a good conference and some lively debates," said local party chairman Peter Jones before leaving for Bournemouth. "We are also looking forward to speeches from leading figures in the Liberal Democrats, particularly party leader Nick Clegg's speech on the final day.

"People in Chesham & Amersham constituency are feeling the pinch with rising prices for food and energy and a collapsing housing market. So there will be a great deal of interest in the debate about the housing and mortgage crisis, and in the speech of Vince Cable MP, our Shadow Chancellor.

"I shall be speaking on the debate on safe standing at football grounds which is a particular issue for me."

Other local members attending include parliamentary spokesman Tim Starkey from Chalfont St Giles, Seb Berry from Great Missenden and Amersham councillor Vera Head.
