Putting Children First - Campaign to Improve Village Road Safety

12.03.44am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 19th Jul 2008

We're often asked what we would do differently from the Conservatives in dealing with the traffic blight in our villages. Local parents are right to worry about their children's safety. They are sick of being told that "nothing can be done," "there's no money," or "it's not a priority."

Seb Berry Chairman of Great Missenden, Prestwood and Heath End Lib Dems says "we need a totally new and different approach - one that puts the interests of children and other vulnerable village residents first."

That's why Chiltern Lib Dems are launching a campaign to persuade local councils to:

1/ increase Council budgets devoted to pedestrian safety improvements

2/ introduce 20 mph slow zones around all our local schools

3/ deliver effective traffic calming measures on blighted village lanes

4/ reverse Conservative cuts to essential child road safety services

5/ install village entry rumble strips and effective visual prompts such as vehicle activated signs

If you agree with our 5 point plan to put our village residents and children first please email your support to info@chilternlibdems.org.uk
