Local Tories try to be "all things to all men" - letter published by the Bucks Examiner 22nd May 2008

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 22nd May 2008

It is not surprising that Conservative councillors in Prestwood (Examiner letters, May 15) are seeking to distance themselves from Conservative policies, and indeed from the Conservative Party. What is clear is that their deviation from the official line was not part of their election material last year. Mind you, neither was any mention of the cut in 'taxi tokens' or the imposition of on-street parking charges.

Liberal Democrats, in Prestwood and elsewhere, have campaigned consistently against these Conservatives policies.

A succession of failed Tory policies, fudges and U-turns is hardly the stuff of firm government. The Conservatives are very good at appearing to be 'all things to all men'. The official Conservative line, as the Prestwood Tories admit, is not so popular.

Yours faithfully,

Councillor Peter Jones
