Green Fair a Great Success

8.38.13am GMT Thu 15th Nov 2007

Well over 400 people attended the Chesham Green Fair hosted by Chiltern Liberal Democrats. Now in its third year, the annual Green Fair has become a "must attend" event for local people wanting to do their bit for the environment. This year's Fair, held in Chesham Town Hall, was the biggest to date.

The Fair was officially opened by Chesham Deputy Mayor Cllr Alison Pirouet. Cllr Pirouet said that "the Fair highlighted the importance of green issues locally and the positive steps that individuals can take to really make a difference."

A particular feature of this year's event was a renewable energy section showcasing different home technologies such as solar panels and micro wind turbines. Installers JHS Power Solutions based in Banbury and Ardenham Energy Ltd based in Aylesbury both reported a number of positive sales leads as a result of the event.

James Hoare, Managing Director of Ardenham Energy Ltd said "we met a large number of local residents eager to do their bit in the fight against climate change. Very few had heard about the Government's grant scheme offering householders up to £2,500 for solar, wind and other renewable energy installations. Local events such as the Green Fair are crucial in helping to get this message out to potential customers."

Local and national environmental groups exhibiting at the event, included the RSPB, Ramblers Association, Sustrans, and the Chiltern Society. For those sweet of tooth, the Fairtrade and honey stands both did a roaring trade. Mr Hunter of the High Wycombe Beekeepers Assocation said that "it was a very successful and enjoyable day. There was a great deal of interest in the art of beekeeping."

Cllr Peter Jones of Chiltern Liberal Democrats, who organised the event said, "this was our best Fair to date, reflecting growing public interest in green issues. We know from our door to door work that many local people already take issues such as recycling and saving energy very seriously, but want to do more. I'm delighted with the positive feedback from the many stall holders at the event and look forward to bringing the Green Fair back to Chesham in future years."
