Two Year Campaign Delivers Speed Limit Enforcement on Prestwood High Street12.00.00am GMT Sat 11th Nov 2006 Thames Valley Police have decided to begin regular 30mph speed limit enforcement on the notorious A4128 running through the heart of Prestwood, the scene of recent tragic fatalities. The new community concern site on Prestwood High Street has been agreed following a two year campaign by local residents and Prestwood Liberal Democrats, including two meetings with a senior Thames Valley Police officer, a petition supported by the majority of High Street residents and a letter writing campaign. Elsewhere, residents in Nags Head Lane have also been campaigning to ensure enforcement of the 30mph limit along what is a narrow, busy residential road without pavements or verges, forcing residents including school children to walk in the road. Thames Valley Police have initially turned down this request, but they are currently reconsidering the decision in response to Nags Head Lane residents concerns. Seb Berry Vice-Chairman of Prestwood and Great Missenden Liberal Democrats said "enforcement should always be an option of last resort, but it is sometimes wanted by village residents who live on blighted roads, and who are literally desperate for "something to be done." What we need therefore is far more County and District council resource put into driver education, traffic calming measures, traffic prompts such as village entry features and much clearer roundels at the entrances to Prestwood and Great Missenden, as well as new pedestrian road crossings in these villages. Great Missenden and Prestwood are not pedestrian friendly villages at the moment, but they could be with political will and a few common-sense road safety measures."
